We are pleased to announce that our portfolio company, fusion energy innovators Alpha Ring, have broken new ground in both the US and Europe, successfully launching its range of Alpha-E compact hands-on educational fusion devices with both Purdue University’s College of Health and Human Sciences and Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski recently announcing installations.

Alpha-E is designed to give students, educators, and researchers direct experience working with fusion reactions in a lab or classroom setting. The platform supports taught courses at undergraduate and graduate level, while also generating experimental data that can contribute to broader research programs and AI-powered modeling systems. An undergraduate student at Sofia University has already used the device to complete a thesis, demonstrating its applicability.
The recent deployments reflect a broader shift in fusion from a purely research-led field toward one that also requires scalable talent development infrastructure. As the fusion sector moves toward commercialization, access to practical training environments is becoming increasingly important for universities, industry, and national innovation strategies.
This is particularly timely as governments, including Europe and the UK, place growing emphasis on building the domestic skills base needed to support emerging fusion industries. In this context, compact systems such as Alpha-E can play an important role in expanding access to relevant technical education and early-stage experimental experience.
Commenting on the momentum behind the Alpha-E rollout, Charles Gary, CEO of Alpha Ring U.S., said: “We want to enable the next generation of researchers to have more hands-on time with fusion devices. It is a crucial way for us to advance critical research and education, and to bring clean fusion energy closer to reality.”
Alpha Ring is focused on advancing the commercialization of fusion and expanding access to the tools, talent, and research environments needed to support long-term industry growth. WI Harper is proud to support the team as it continues to build across this next phase.
