Launched on May 12, 2008, Plurk is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates (otherwise known as “plurks”) through short messages or links. Updates are shown chronologically in a timeline on the user’s home page and are shared with other users who have signed up to receive them. Users can respond to each other’s updates from their timeline through the Plurk website by instant messaging or text messaging; advanced features also include sending updates only to a sub-group of friends, posting updates on events happened earlier in the day, and sharing images, videos, and other media. Plurk has become a content delivery feed, a modern day reader/RSS with opinions. Currently, Plurk ranks 49th in Taiwan and 1,975th worldwide with 75% of its traffic come from Taiwan.
