Eric currently serves as the Executive Director of the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Foundation (AIF.TW), where he promotes the adoption of AI across industries and society.
Until March 2023, Eric was Partner Director of Technology Strategy at Microsoft Research Asia, focusing on IP portfolio management, initiating research themes, and guiding technologies toward real-world impact. He previously co-founded Microsoft’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in 2003, where he led teams developing Office, Windows, and other Microsoft products, as well as launching a multidisciplinary incubation team.
Before joining Microsoft Research, Eric was a founding member of the research group at Nuance Communications, a pioneer in natural speech interfaces. At Nuance, he led the development of the world’s first deployed Japanese natural language speech recognition system.
Eric holds a Ph.D., Master’s, and Bachelor’s degree from MIT, all in electrical engineering and computer science. He has published extensively in eHealth, speech processing, and machine learning, and is the author of over 15 granted and pending patents.
