Dr. Johnsee Lee is the Chairman of Taiwan Biotech Industry Organization (Taiwan BIO), Founder & CEO of Personal Genomics, and Chairman of Quark Biosciences, Inc. Previously, he served as President of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Chairman of the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), and Board Director of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (TSMC). Dr. Lee has been instrumental in advancing Taiwan’s high-tech industries and currently chairs the Taiwan Precision Medicine & Molecular Diagnostic Industry Association.
He earned his PhD from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Chicago, as well as completing Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Dr. Lee founded and directed the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory at ITRI and has helped launch over 15 biotech and IT startups in the past 15 years. His earlier career includes technical and managerial roles at Argonne National Laboratory and Johnson Matthey Inc. in the U.S.
He has served as President of the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies, Taiwan Telehealthcare Industry Association, and Monte Jade Science & Technology Association. Dr. Lee has published extensively in journals and holds numerous patents. His honors include the National Engineering Medal, CIE Distinguished Achievement Award, the Innovation Leadership Award by Global Views, and the Excellence in Research & Innovation Award by Frost & Sullivan.
