Professor Norman C. Tien currently serves as Interim Executive Vice-President (Administration and Finance) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), where he also holds the Taikoo Professorship of Engineering and is Chair Professor of Microsystems Technology. He is the Managing Director of the Centre for Transformative Garment Production and Head of the Innovation Academy in the Faculty of Engineering.
He previously served as Dean of Engineering at HKU from 2012 to 2018, and as Vice President and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement) from 2019 to 2021.
Before joining HKU, Professor Tien was the Nord Professor of Engineering and Dean of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University from 2007 to 2011. He has also held faculty positions at the University of California, Davis; the University of California, Berkeley; and Cornell University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, his M.S. from the University of Illinois, and his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley.
